Organized by the Federal Ministry of Health Nigeria, the inaugural Summit on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH) Accountability brought together 350 participants from over 80 organizations in Nigeria. This unprecedented gathering of non-profit leaders, government, media, religious authorities, youth delegates, and other key stakeholders provided a platform for knowledge-sharing and partnership to advance health across the continuum of care for women, children, and young people.

The Summit closed with a call to the Nigerian federal government to declare maternal, neonatal and under-5 deaths a national priority emergency and for an action plan to address these issues. The Summit’s steering committee and partners will work with the government and civil society to ensure the outcomes of the summit are operationalized at the local and national level in Nigeria.

Youth delegates featured prominently throughout the Summit, beginning with opening plenary youth speaker Margaret Bolaji’s reminder that there can there can be no development for youth without them. The Summit elevated youth and girls’ leadership on the national agenda, featuring youth-only panels, discussions on girl-centered advocacy, and a youth networking lunch led by C4C’s Grace Kaimila Kanjo.
